Help Free Us From Dependence On Foreign Oil!

  • If you haven’t heard, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the current Democrat House leadership refused to allow an up-or-down vote on legislation to increase American energy production prior to adjourning Congress for the August recess.  That includes my Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act that would repeal the Congressional ban on offshore drilling and allow access to at least 8.5 billion barrels of oil and 29.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas on the Outer Continental Shelf that has been confirmed.  There is also an estimated 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas that we currently don’t have access to.  Last month, the President lifted his moratorium on offshore drilling.  Congress needs to follow suit.

Instead of debating my bill and other similar bills, Speaker Pelosi turned off our microphones, shut off the lights, kicked all press out of the Press Gallery and left Washington for a five week recess while we still don’t have a solution to high energy prices.  You may not have heard about it because of the bias of the national media.

House Republicans are protesting this lack of action by taking to the floor throughout the month of August to deliver speeches urging Pelosi to call the House back into session to vote on this important matter.  I’m back in DC because I know how important this issue is to the American people.  I have also urged the President to call Congress back in to session, a power given to him by the U.S. Constitution.

Folks, let me be clear as I write you this letter, members of Congress are standing in a darkened House chamber with their microphones cut off speaking for a new energy policy with which a clear majority of our country agrees.  This is unprecedented.  Our voices aren’t the only ones that have been silenced…yours have as well.

And in case you think I’m just being partisan, there are numerous democrats in Congress who agree with those of us protesting.  They are as angry with their leader as we are!  We are not asking for both sides to agree on everything; we are asking for a VOTE on this issue.  Period.  We are paying close to $4.00 at the pump because we don’t have enough supply to keep up with the demand, and while this isn’t an end-all solution, it will give us time to develop new and better technology so we can eventually wean ourselves off oil.

I doubt you will hear much of this on the national news, but we need your help to get the word out and let the other members of Congress know that you think we need to drill for our own oil and natural gas on the Outer Continental Shelf.  The process must be started now.  Call everyone you know around the country and tell them to call their member of Congress and tell them they want a vote.  Their voice is being silenced just like yours.  The number to call all offices is 202-224-3121.

    Sincerely,
